Expenses
Personal and shared money in one place: split group trips and household costs, roll up the month in My Expenses, track EMI and subscriptions, attach receipts, optional iCloud sync, a Home Screen widget, and Siri / Shortcuts for quick entry—with Expense Tracker and Splitter Pro unlocking the full AI Spending Insights coach.
Overview
Expenses is a native iPhone and iPad app for people who need clear group math and a monthly personal view at the same time. It is built around a home hub with cards—not a single giant ledger—so you open the mode that matches real life: My Expenses (monthly rollup and charts), Expense Splitter (trips and parties), Roommates (household), Couple (two-person shared), Personal Travel (private trip ledger), and EMI / Subscriptions (loans and recurring plans with reminders). Settings (gear) sits at the top-right from the hub.
On first launch, full-screen onboarding walks through the value proposition and ends on personalization: display name, base currency, an optional Contacts pick for the name, an optional iCloud (private sync) toggle, and a choice to start fresh or load demo data.
Data posture: Core data stays on your device. Receipt images are kept in shared storage (the same area the widget can read), linked from your expenses—not stuffed inside every line item. If you turn on sync, eligible data can sync through Apple’s private iCloud database for your Apple ID; personal travel stays private-first for sharing. For non–base-currency hints, the app may call a public exchange-rate service (see Frankfurter)—mention that on your App Store privacy answers if you list third-party processing.
Premium: Expense Tracker and Splitter Pro (in-app purchases through Apple) unlocks the full AI Spending Insights / Spending Coach experience. Free users still see AI insight teaser cards on My Expenses; the dedicated coach and Q&A flow is paywalled behind Pro. Settings includes Go Premium, Restore purchases, and subscription management when you are not entitled.
