Learn how to use Expenses Tracker & Splitter
This page follows the live app structure: a home hub with six tiles, then navigation stacks inside each area. Labels match on-screen titles (for example My Expenses, EMI / Subscriptions, Cards & wallets). If a future update renames a row, trust the text in the app.

First launch & onboarding
- Open Expenses Tracker & Splitter. A short brand splash may appear, then the onboarding screen.
- Enter your display name (used on settlements and rollups). Optionally tap to pick a name from Contacts or use the device owner suggestion when offered.
- Choose your primary currency from the picker.
- Toggle iCloud (private sync) if you have Pro and want ledgers in your private iCloud database across devices. Without Pro the toggle stays off.
- Tap Get started for an empty ledger, or Go Premium if you want the paywall first—both paths save your name and currency.
Home hub
- After onboarding you see Welcome plus your name and a grid of six tiles.
- Tap a tile to open that area’s list or hub screen. Use the navigation Back chevron (or edge swipe) to return here.
- Tap the gear (top-right) anytime for Settings.
- Tile guide:
- My Expenses — monthly rollup
- Expense Splitter — trip/party list
- Roommates — household list
- Couple — two-person spaces
- Personal Travel — private trips
- EMI / Subscriptions — loans, subscriptions, cards
My Expenses
- From the home hub, tap My Expenses.
- Use the month header arrows to change months. All metrics and lists follow the selected month.
- Read the two metric cards:
- Daily + shared Expenses — personal cash flow plus your share from included trips, roommates, couple, and personal travel.
- Expenses + EMI or Expenses + Fixed — adds EMI (and subscriptions when that monthly inclusion is on in Settings).
- Tap AI Spending Insights:
- Everyone sees insight cards with short titles and messages.
- With Pro, open the full coach for deeper analysis and Ask My Expenses Q&A.
- Without Pro, the row shows a PRO badge and routes to the paywall.
- Tap Income & Budget to add or edit income, savings, and transfer rows for that month. If income details are enabled in Settings but empty, the hub card prompts you to add salary for remaining calculations.
- Donut charts (Pro only) — Swipe horizontally between:
- Daily spend categories — personal categories from your cash-flow entries.
- All expense sources — trips, roommates, couple, personal travel, misc buckets, EMI, subscriptions (per rollup rules).
- Cash flow list — Personal expenses grouped by day. Use the search field to filter by category, note, paid-with label, or amount.
- Tap the floating + button to add a personal expense:
- Enter amount, category, date, optional note.
- Choose Paid with (cash, saved card nicknames, mobile pay wallets).
- Attach a receipt from camera or library when needed.
- Use the mic control for voice entry when available.
- Save. Free tier: up to three new expenses per day across personal and shared spaces.
- Swipe or tap a row to edit or delete a personal line.
- Pro toolbar — Share icon → Share text summary or Export PDF summary for the month.
Expense Splitter (trips & parties)
- Home hub → Expense Splitter. You see a list of trips/parties (or an empty state with add).
- Add a space: name it, set optional start/end dates, choose base currency if prompted.
- Open the space row to enter the workspace.
- Add people (first/last name or contact pick). After adding someone, you may be asked to invite via iCloud when sharing is enabled.
- Add each expense:
- Amount and Paid by.
- Category, note, date.
- Paid with using your saved card or wallet nicknames.
- Optional receipt (camera, library, or smart scan review sheet).
- For couple spaces only: scope may be shared vs personal when the separate-ledger toggle is on.
- Watch the running total update as you log lines.
- Tap Calculate (or the results action) for fair shares, balances, and who pays whom settlements.
- Use History when shown to reopen past snapshots.
- Share / export — Use in-space menus for JSON/CSV export or import when you need a backup.
- iCloud sharing (Pro) — From space settings or share affordances, enable sync and use Apple’s share sheet so partners receive the shared trip. Status text on screen explains syncing vs local-only.
- Leave a shared space when you no longer participate—your copy is removed locally; others keep the shared iCloud copy.
Roommates
- Home hub → Roommates → list of household spaces.
- Add a household: set a property name and optional billing cycle day (day-of-month rhythm).
- Inside the space, the flow matches trips: people, expenses, calculate, history, export.
- Enable iCloud sharing (Pro) when multiple roommates should see the same ledger.
Couple
- Home hub → Couple → list of two-person spaces (often one primary space).
- Create or open a couple space. Set split preset (for example 50/50) and whether household vs personal expenses use a separate ledger toggle.
- Add partners with names/photos; couple invites typically turn on iCloud sharing for that space.
- Log expenses with payer, category, paid-with, and couple scope when applicable.
- Open Income & Budget from the couple workspace when offered—household income for both partners, including synced partner income rows when sharing is active.
- On EMI / Subscriptions, partner shared bills may appear in your segment lists when include EMI/subscription in couple summary is enabled in Settings.
- Run Calculate for balances and settlements like other shared spaces.
Personal Travel
- Home hub → Personal Travel.
- Add a private trip ledger (name, dates). This area is for solo travel spending—not the same cloud-share flow as group trips.
- Log expenses and calculate balances the same way as other space kinds.
- Include personal travel in My Expenses via Settings rollup toggles when you want those shares in the monthly view.
EMI / Subscriptions & Cards & wallets
- Home hub → EMI / Subscriptions.
- Use the top segmented control:
- EMI/Loan — Add loans with title, amount, schedule, next due, reminders. Mark closed when paid off. Optional receipt attach.
- Subscriptions — Recurring services with the same fields; insights may summarize subscription load.
- Cards & wallets — Maintain nickname-only profiles:
- Credit cards section — e.g. bank card nicknames.
- Mobile pay & wallets — e.g. UPI, Venmo, PayPal.
- Never enter full card numbers—only short labels for Paid with menus elsewhere.
- Tap + or list rows to add, edit, or delete entries. Some edits may require Pro on the free tier—follow on-screen prompts.
- Allow notifications when iOS asks if you want due-date reminders.
- When you use a couple space with sharing, partner EMI/subscription lines may show in the loan/subscription lists for visibility.
Home Screen widget
- With Pro active, open the main app at least once so it publishes the month snapshot.
- On the Home Screen, add the Expenses widget (name may match the short App Store title).
- The widget shows month title, cash paid, fixed-cost total, EMI/subscription breakdown, and income/savings/remaining when income details exist.
- Without Pro, the widget displays a Premium required message instead of live totals.
Siri & Shortcuts
Open the Shortcuts app or say phrases to Siri (exact wording can vary by language):
- Quick expense — Opens the app for voice capture (Quick expense, Voice expense, etc.).
- Natural expense — Parses a phrase like “coffee twelve dollars yesterday” into fields.
- Log expense — Adds spending for a category you choose in the shortcut parameter.
- Trip expense — Starts logging into a shared trip flow.

In Settings → Voice expense entry, turn Auto-save voice expenses on to save immediately after parsing, or off to review before saving.
Settings
- Home hub → gear (or Back from any stack, then gear).
- Premium (when not subscribed) — Go Premium, Restore purchases, Manage subscription.
- Profile — Tap the pencil to edit name and currency; tap the avatar for Photos picker and crop.
- Income & Budget — Toggle Show income details in My Expenses.
- Appearance — Theme (automatic / light / dark) and accent color.
- Feedback — Haptics and sound effects.
- Voice expense entry — Auto-save toggle.
- Data sync — iCloud (private sync) (Pro required to turn on). Footer explains on-device vs iCloud storage.
- Date format — How dates appear in lists and exports.
- About — Version, Send Feedback, contact link, privacy and terms URLs, short data note.
Additional rollup inclusion toggles (trips, roommates, couple, personal travel, misc, donut EMI slices, partner income, couple EMI summary) may appear in your build under Settings or advanced rollup sections—match what you see on device.
